This huge prone lion figure with a human face faces the east to the rising sun and the modern day Cairo and is a very popular destination for the thousands that visit the Giza plateau and here viewed from the most accessible point on causeway from Khafre Pyramid to his Valley Temple. The range of clouds includes cirrus, storm clouds, white puffy fair weather clouds, monster cloud formations, haar, sun beams, lenticular, mama, a wide range of different meteorological structures and types.
Pastel-Deeside-Sunset-qax7608jhp Deeside Scotland summer sunset clouds hilline Aberdeenshire Kincardine O’Neil is some 25 miles west of Aberdeen in North East Scotland. The most colourful period only lasts a few minutes so it is very much being in the right place at the best time but it helps having a forest or nice river scene on the doorstep but with a major mountain range to the west of Deeside, often the sun setting behind them or a large bank of rain cloud kills off the best of any last minute colour. The biggest problem with sunsets are they can take longer from the start of colourful clouds through to the more subtle final reds but every evening the shapes and nature of the clouds and light is different. This one was taken on the 10th August, 2020 around 9.14pm BST. They happen only a few times a year and need a clear cloudless night best to see them although in this photo the normal clouds are also present. This is taken looking magnetic 60-80 degrees from Crooktree North Eastwards with lights of Torphins and 25 miles west of Aberdeen in North East Scotland, first show in 2020 in the early morning of the 15th July. Taken at 00.21.16 UT using a D700 Nikon DSLR with a Nikkor 24mm f2.8 at f5.6, ISO 200 for 10sec. It was a perfect night with little wind and very little normal cloud cover. This is taken looking magnetic 280-320 degrees from Crooktree North and Westwards and 25 miles west of Aberdeen in North East Scotland, first show in 2020 in the late evening of the 11th June into early 12th. Taken at 23.15 UT [after midnight in BST] using a D700 Nikon DSLR with a Nikkor 24mm f2.8 at f5.6, ISO 500 for 3sec. It was a perfect night with little wind and very little normal cloud cover. The most dramatic and vibrant period only lasts a few minutes so it is very much being in the right place at the best time but it helps having a forest or nice river scene on the doorstep but with a major mountain range to the west of Deeside, often the sun setting behind them or a large bank of rain cloud kills off the best of any last minute colour. The biggest problem with sunsets are they can take longer from the start of colourful clouds through to the more subtle final reds but every evening the shapes and nature of the clouds and light is different. This one was the last taken on the 18th May, 2020 around 9.38pm BST. Braemar-Castle-qax8460jhp Braemar Castle fort autumn rainbow wintry larch trees Royal Deeside Scottish was built in 1628 by John Earl of Mar was basically a pitched roof over the main tower and some turrets. Later in the 18th century the battlements and unusual star-shaped defensive curtain wall were added. It was forfeited to the crown after the 1715 rebellion and were later sold to the Farquharson’s of Invercauld and rented back to the Crown as a Hanoverian garrison post until 1831. It has a barrel vaulted ceilings, an iron yett, an open wrought iron metal grid, covering an underground dungeon with its bottle neck entrance. Since then it has been a private property until recently by Invercauld Estate and is now run as a tourist attraction by a local community trust after refurbishment with exhibitions reflecting its, and the local area history. The sign in the foreground is a message of hope that the Corona Virus pandemic will be beaten. The photo was taken by luck on 21st November, 2020 at around 11.20UT. As a private property now in the control of a local charity then these photographs should only be used for tourist/scenic/editorial purposes. The Castle is accessible for exterior viewing all year round with easy parking at nearby carpark but the interiors during summer months at weekends from 11-4 or by prior appointment.
