Deir el-Medina Overview EG051885JHP Deir al-Madinah Vista Village Workers Temple Houses Streets Stone Walls Hills is located on the West Bank of the River Nile at Luxor lies to the west of Qurnet Murai hill and is the location of a workman's village with the remains of houses, streets and to the north a Ptolemaic Temple and other chapels. The workers are known for their work in the Valley tombs which they reached walking over the Theban plateau. Several photographs show the streets, houses, interior with domestic bowls and grinding querns and others a general overview of the village with its tombs and rock tombs to the North West corner. There are also some exquisitely decorated underground tombs of which a couple are included in the entrance ticket. The ruined but graceful Elizabethan styled shell dating from 1885 of this spectacular house is the centre of and Estate with restored farm and estate properties and was part of a proposed golf course, hotel and housing development which died a death after the 2007 recession but has been recently resurrected according to reports in 2014.
