Tut Model Barge EG11715JHP Egyptian Museum Cairo Egypt Exhibit miniature boats Tomb Tutankhamun photo in the prime antiquities collection in Cairo taken during visits between 1994 and 1996 when photography was allowed albeit without flash and tripod. None is of studio quality, being handheld with existing, usually extremely poor light and using slide film, pushed Fuji 400asa to get a suitable aperture and shutter speed. Most of the photos are from the Tutankahum exhibits while the rest are items that interested me as I explored this wonderful and extensive collection, requiring many more hours if not days and is only hinted at during the usual one or two hour visit made on a package tour. Sebua Temple Court Statues EG051715JHP Egypt Ancient Egyptian Temple Nasser es-Sebua Osiride Statues Ramesses Court is located on the shores of Lake Nasser after relocation from its previous location 2km away to avoid flooding after the creation of the High Dam in Aswan. The temple was built by Ramesses 11 of which much evidence stands as statues, sphinxes and engaged Osiride Statues in the inner courtyards. The temple was later used for Christian worship and has the curious site of Ramesses adoring St Peter in the sanctuary. This site is usually a part of a Lake Nasser cruise and begins a part of the cruise which is completed with a longish hot desert walk to the nearby sites of Dakka and Maharraka before returning to the cruiseboat. Later after the building of a bridge to give access to the New Castle built around the 1900’s by Colonel James Ogston, known in Aberdeen as ‘Soapy Ogston’ of the Aberdeen Soap Manufacturing company and with its close connections to two large hotels of to-day in the area-Norwood and Ardoe House, the gardens were further developed with a Japanese Water Garden and the addition of many new shrubs, trees and flowers. Under James Pearson Smith the modern gardens came under a Charitable Trust in 1968, giving public access in exchange for public donations and entry fee to help pay for the continuing running of the gardens. Overlooking the gardens are the ruins of the Castle and the New Castle, now the Kildrummy Castle Hotel. A small carpark is at the entrance to the road that crosses the bridge and access to the Hotel. The Castle is a Historic Scotland property with its roots set during the peak of medieval European castle construction during the early 13th century. Started by Alexander 11 and possibly later extended after a visit by Edward 1 of England in 1296. It survived many sieges, being burnt and later restored, before being largely dismantled after the Jacobite rising of 1715 when used as the headquarters for the Earl of Mar. It is a magnificent ruin and the scale of the thick walls is particularly impressive despite not being as well preserved as many similar English ruins. Later in the 18th century the battlements and unusual star-shaped defensive curtain wall were added. It was forfeited to the crown after the 1715 rebellion and were later sold to the Farquharson’s of Invercauld and rented back to the Crown as a Hanoverian garrison post until 1831. It has a barrel vaulted ceilings, an iron yett, an open wrought iron metal grid, covering an underground dungeon with its bottle neck entrance. Since then it has been a private property until recently by Invercauld Estate and is now run as a tourist attraction by a local community trust after refurbishment with exhibitions reflecting its, and the local area history. The sign in the foreground is a message of hope that the Corona Virus pandemic will be beaten. The photo was taken by luck on 21st November, 2020 at around 11.20UT. As a private property now in the control of a local charity then these photographs should only be used for tourist/scenic/editorial purposes. The Castle is accessible for exterior viewing all year round with easy parking at nearby carpark but the interiors during summer months at weekends from 11-4 or by prior appointment.
