Caption: | Marnoch Kirkton Cemetery Death Symbols Skull Crossbones Scythe Stone TombCarving is located by the River Deveron south of Banff in Aberdeenshire in North East Scotland. The church and the area where originally called Aberchirder and the congregation were the catalyst for the Disruption of 1834, a major schism in the Scottish Church of the time. Only a gable of the old church remains in the kirkyard and although an active cemetery it does have some interesting historically important ruined tombs and mausoleums including an excellent example of a watchtower dating from 1831, built during the time of body snatching for medical research rife throughout Scotland. |
