Caption: | Egypt Karanis Kom Aushim Temple Entrance South Gate Paving Stoneswas a city on the north eastern edge of the area known as Fayoum and dates from Ptolemaic times through to 500AD. Two Roman dated temples survive in reasonable state and the southern one, the entrance gates shown in this photo is dedicated to the crocodile Gods of Pnepheros and Petesuchos. Many finds have been made especially of life in a residential area with houses scattered throughout the site and there is also a fine Roman bathhouse. A small museum now closed has ben replaced with an open air area with a selection of artefacts adjacent to the main walk to the temples. |
