Caption: | Karanis Kom Aushim Open Air Museum Egyptian Granite Pharaoh Statuewas a city on the north eastern edge of the area known as Fayoum and dates from Ptolemaic times through to 500AD. Two Roman dated temples survive in reasonable state and the southern one is dedicated to the crocodile Gods of Pnepheros and Petesuchos. Many finds have been made especially of life in a residential area with houses scattered throughout the site and there is also a fine Roman bathhouse. A small museum now closed has been replaced with an open air area with a selection of artefacts adjacent to the main walk to the temples as is this granite statue in the photo. |
