New Byth bnm2890jhp New Byth village central Buchan Aberdeenshire Scotland planned May spring fields near Cuminestown was built around the late 1700’s as part of a process by the landowners to support the increased agriculture of this northern area of Aberdeenshire. The Buchan province whose name means “land at the bend in the ocean” was underdeveloped but was developed as part of the enlightenment as landowners sought to improve their estates and the overall agriculture of the land. Nearby Cuminestown was one of the first founded in 1761 by Joseph Cumine and New Byth followed soon afterwards and later followed by other Central Buchan villages like Maud, Mintlaw and New Deer.
