This popular route through the picturesque Glen Dye, passing the most recognisable hill shape of Clachnaben with its tor rocky outcrop and climbing up through heather moorland and new forest plantations and then offering spectacular views of the Mearns and south eastern Aberdeenshire to the North Sea and southwards to Montrose and almost to Dundee and beyond on a clear day from the layby and viewpoint just over the Cairn summit.
