Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights displays photographed taken over Aberdeeshire in Scotland since 1989 covering some 350 events with arc, rays, coronas with a wide rnage of shapes and colours
Aurora Deeside vbn0365jhp Aurora Borealis Scotland very fast ISO experiment noise green rays Deeside Aberdeenshire taken on the 27th August, 2015 at Crooktree, 25 miles west of Aberdeen and the first display since February 2014. This photograph was taken with a Nikon D700 full frame DSLR using a 24mm Nikkor f2.8 lens at f8 and ISO settings of 25600 which allows for extremely short exposure circa 5 sec average times with hopefully more accurate recordings of these moving events and the noise factor was not unacceptable at this ISO setting. The light conditions were not perfect as the background light was from the full moon but dispels any myths that Aurora’s cannot be seen under such conditions.
