Bellabeg Motte xcv7218jhp Bellabeg motte fort Doune Invernochty fortress Glenbuchat Strathdon Scotland winter scene viewed from the Glenbuchat Road north of Bellabeg village taking the turning by the Spar Grocery store from the main Strathdon road. The motte can be seen from the road after crossing the Water of Nochty Bridge and after the right hand turn to Lost with its famous sign. A public carpark is opposite the motte, an ancient Pictish fort site in origin, later reinforced for the Earldom of Mar in the 1100,s but later redundant with the construction of Glenbuchat Castle further to the east and strategically placed above the other entrance to the Glen.
