Rural Strathdon jkl8999jhp Scotland Strathdon Deskry Aberdeenshire ruined croft farm steadings spring by the roadside on the A97 road south of Strathdon via Boultenstone to Dinnet on Royal Deeside Aberdeenshire in North East Scotland. Fewer ruins are seen today as increased prosperity has enabled many to be restored and modernised for use as holiday cottages or second homes. Known as ‘butt & ben’ houses they feel increasingly derelict as the earliest Highland Clearances and more modern farming practices denuded the countryside of farm labour and the population moved nearer to large towns and cities seeking employment.
