Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights displays photographed taken over Aberdeeshire in Scotland since 1989 covering some 350 events with arc, rays, coronas with a wide rnage of shapes and colours
Aurora & Aircraft rty1929jhp Aurora Borealis photo aircraft lights Scottish green rays clouds Aberdeenshire taken on the 1st October 2012 at Crooktree, 25 miles west of Aberdeen is the first display I have seen this back quarter and probably the best display now photographed since end of the previous Solar Cycle in 2006. This photograph was taken with a Nikon D700 full frame DSLR using a 28mm Nikkor f2.8 lens and ISO settings of 3200 which allows for much shorter exposure circa 6 sec average times with hopefully more accurate recordings of these moving events. The light conditions were not perfect as the background light was from the full moon but dispels any myths that Aurora’s cannot be seen under such conditions. Looking to magentic North with multiple rays just visible behind a thickening cloud bank at 00.27.33hrs UT [01.27.33BST] with an exposure of 15 secs. An aircraft strobe lights are visible by the left hand copse of trees and a large flaming ray base over Torphins, the street lights on the right.
